ANGIE GORENC
MEd, RP, Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist

Are you feeling stuck? Feeling stressed, sad, hopeless, anxious, afraid, or irritable? I'd like to help.
Every individual has a unique set of skills and coping strategies that has helped them get through life. Sometimes those exact strategies get in the way of leading the life you want to live. I'd like to help you unpack some of the thoughts, behaviours, and patterns that have brought you to this point. With compassion and curiosity change can happen. I use a variety of strategies from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) and Mindfulness to inform my practice. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology. I have been fortunate to be working in the field of mental health for over 14 years. Give me a call and let's see if I can be of help to you.

THE FIRST SESSION

At the first session I will spend some time getting to know you, and we will talk about what brings you into therapy and to get a brief understanding of your background and past. It is necessary to have an account of the past as it will help to inform the present. In order for me to support you in the best possible way it would be helpful that I get to know what are your; past traumas, ability to deal with change and conflict, brief family history, areas of invalidation, success, strengths, fears, drug use history, relationships, etc.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

I like to begin our relationship with a 15 minute no obligation consult session, where we can get to know one another. During the phone conversation I would encourage you to ask me questions you may have about therapy in general, or questions about the modalities I use in therapy. This is a chance for us to get to know one another, get a felt sense if we would be a good fit and see if the issues that you are seeking help for are ones that I would be best at supporting you with. This is a confidential phone call and your privacy is of utmost importance to me, with respect to the limits of confidentiality.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

This is difficult to predict as individuals are unique and complex. If you come into therapy and are willing to work towards change then results are bound to happen. Any type of change is often difficult and unsettling, even if it is change for the better, but willingness and commitment plays a large part in helping to foster change and growth.

WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Therapy offers a safe space to be open and explore what gets in the way of living the life you want to live. Together with your therapist you can become curious about what thoughts and behaviours are preventing you from change, evolution and growth. A key factor in the positive outcome of therapy lies in the therapeutic relationship, which is why it is so important to be able to create a safe and welcoming environment to allow for open and honest dialogue.

FEES

I offer a free 15 minute phone or in person consultation to discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and establish if we are a good fit together. My therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and are $150 per session plus HST. I offer one sliding scale space, please contact me to discuss the sliding scale availability.

I currently have the ability for a limited caseload of clients, and I am looking for people who are committed to being held accountable and show up for each session. I ask that you give me 24 hours advanced notice to cancel your appointment. You can make payments for sessions by cash, cheque, BTC, EMT, Visa, or Mastercard. I provide receipts for all payments.

Some insurance companies may provide coverage for counselling and psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist who is approved by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario or CRPO. I would advise that you inquire with your insurance company about coverage.

MY APPROACH

  • COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT.)

CBT is a type of psychotherapy in which negative patterns of thought about the self and the world are challenged in order to alter unwanted behavior patterns or treat mood disorders such as depression.

  • DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT)

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a specific type of cognitive-behavioralpsychotherapy developed in the late 1980s by psychologist Marsha M. Linehan to help better treat borderline personality disorder. Since its development, it has also been used for the treatment of other kinds of mental health disorders.

  • SENSORIMOTOR PSYCHOTHERAPY

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a method that integrates sensorimotor processing with cognitive and emotional processing in the treatment of trauma. This method is especially beneficial for clinicians working with dissociation, emotional reactivity or flat affect, frozen states or hyperarousal and other PTSD symptoms.
